Muhammad Karnova is a Partner at Makes & Partners Law Firm. He specializes and has been recognized for his work in M&A (both private and public) across multiple business sectors and market cycles, including banking, securities brokerage, insurance, multi finance, fintech, oil & gas, petrochemicals, mining, plantations, power and renewable energy, toll-roads, ports, water utilities, media/broadcasting, IT/telecom, automotive, property development, manufacturing and FMCG. Supplementing his M&A transactional expertise, he also has significant corporate banking experience, with a particular focus on syndication and structured finance work, including from his prior advisory role at a reputable Indonesian state-owned public listed bank that is very active in the Indonesian loan syndication market.

He has acted for a long-list of investment banks, private equity and venture capital houses, multinational corporations as well as large Indonesian corporates/groups and state-owned companies for more than two decades since the aftermath of the Asian financial crisis which affected Indonesia and has first-hand experience in witnessing and being actively involved in various deals supporting the recovery of the Indonesian economy.

He has been recognized by various legal media publishers, including IFLR 1000, Legal 500 and Chambers & Partners, for his exceptional negotiation skills and expertise particularly in the energy, natural resources and infrastructure sectors.

Before joining Makes & Partners, he has worked in many reputable institutions, including as a partner at Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners (HHP)/Baker McKenzie and was seconded to the Singapore offices of Baker McKenzie. He holds a law degree from University of Padjajaran and has completed CFA trainings at BINUS Business School. He is a member of the Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI) and other professional organizations relevant to his practice.
